It sounds like they probably started planning it long before Rise of Iron was even conceived of, which means it must have originally been planned for Destiny 2. And that is some pretty exciting news, because it suggests a high likelihood that they have been planning it to take full advantage of the next-gen console capabilities from the outset. Currently the only Raid in Destiny is the Vault of Glass and by adding Raid matchmaking, more players would be able to take part. Do you think that you and a team of strangers could beat Vault of Glass? Most of the raiding parties who have emerged victorious from the Vault of Glass have sworn that one weak link would have doomed their chain. There have been other stories, of course. Strange tales have reached our ears — tales of total strangers who have banded together to see the Raid all the way through to a triumphant finale.
Keep sounding off about it, and maybe someday some matchmade Fireteam mates will hear you, too. That along with the fact that Bungie seem to think that random teams of players are less likely to complete the Raids compared to teams who know each other. Despite this though Deej has admitted that they know of players who have beaten Vault of Glass with strangers simply by messaging each other so surely Raid matchmaking would work, clearly the fan-base wants it.

Sadly, it seems the Cabal will take center stage in the sequel, instead of an entirely new faction, and the studio apparently plans to flesh out many of the existing enemy types in the game. The larger playspaces we see in Destiny 2 will also offer more for players to do, including numerous towns and other activity zones meant to replace the patrol quests from the first game and its expansions.

Smith shoots down the idea that they need traditional tools that people are accustomed to, when discussing matchmaking I think that’s the challenge.
It’s not how do we change the raid-design philosophy to allow for matchmaking. The game itself feels like the skeleton of an MMO that was intended to evolve into a bustling single-player campaign, but neither idea came together in a way that made it satisfactory

Currently, players can only attempt Destiny’s first raid, The Vault of Glass, by joining a pre-made six-player group. The decision not to allow random matchmaking was made due to the content’s difficulty, said Bungie. The developer wanted groups of friends to attempt to tackle the content together. However, that restriction means very few players are able to access the content, regardless of whether they have the requisite skill, level, time, or willingness.
It’s still early days, but currently only 4. When measured against the substantial development resources required to create such elaborate content, Bungie is unlikely to consider that completion rate optimal. In a community update , community manager David “Deej” Dague said the developer is discussing matchmaking for raids.

The runes correspond to three difficulty levels, ranging from easier fights to “just below Nightfall”.
Each focuses on an element that had not been represented among each class’s preexisting sub-classes, and features a new super ability. The Hunter class’s new Void-based sub-class “Nightstalker” includes a bow-like super known as the “Shadowshot” that tethers enemies together, limiting movement and preventing enemies from using abilities for a short time. The Titan’s “Sunbreaker” sub-class features a solar-based super, the “Hammer of Sol”, creating a flaming hammer that can be thrown at enemies, or used for close-quarters combat.

There will never be raid matchmaking. There should not be matchmaking for end game content. Now in game LFG is a very different story and would be extremely useful. Standard matchmaking would be completely broken since the biggest issue is not having a designated party leader who can boot people who are just there to troll. But yeah, if Bungie implements their own version of an LFG site, complete with party leaders and ways for people to designate whether they’re requiring mics or not
